Trends in Coaching for 2024

Welcome to the Coaching Café series for 2024!

Not long ago we signed off for the year, with a recap on the trends in coaching that we predicated for 2023.  And now here we are, gazing into our re-usable coffee cups. Thinking about the important topics that we are likely to influence our workplaces and coaching this year.

The good news is that you don’t need your double shot espresso for inspiration. There are several trends that we are seeing in our research. In addition, through conversations with Alumni and readers like yourself.  In this blog, we introduce the top 3 trends.

Listen to the Coaching Cafe podcasts

Artificial Intelligence

Trend 1: The use of AI in coaching

There is no doubt that AI has started to be integrated into coaching practice. The International Coach Federation (ICF) even has a Technology in Research branch that recognises the impact of digital technology and in particular AI.

Pundits agree that AI cannot replace human connection, holding the space and coaching presence. However, there are benefits in terms of reflective practice, self-coaching and creating strong question banks. We look forward to discussing this hot topic in future coaching cafes. In particular the pros and cons of the use of AI in coaching. And how we can become better coaches using AI.

Quiet quitting

Trend 2: Quiet quitting and building engagement

Research suggests that 67% of our workforce are quiet quitting. Again, there is no doubt that coaching plays a significant role in building engagement. In particular, coaching managers to coach their people. This is a topic that we need to focus on as an Alumni.

Trend 3: Right to disconnect, mental health and burnout

World Health Organisation (WHO) research suggests that 12 billion working days are lost to mental health issues and burnout globally. Costing organisations billions of dollars. We think about the people, families, friends and work colleagues that are represented in the numbers. Importantly, for a number of years we have been focussed on raising the awareness of mental health in the workplace.  Particularly the need for conversations.

Add to the this the recent ‘right to disconnect’ legislation and we have a lot to discuss around this topic in future Coaching Cafes.
