Will AI replace us as coaches?
The short answer is no! We recommend you listen to the webinar ‘Ask Me Anything: Artificial Intelligence Coaching’ from the International Coach Federation for a further explanation. Furthermore, to find out about our industry specifically, the ICF’s Technology in Coaching hub is a great place to start. Our approach, as we discuss over our webinar series on AI in Coaching is to be ‘explorers’. Not experts. This curiosity allows us to delve deeper into the use of AI. And importantly to discover: how can we make our coaching better?
The pros and cons of AI in Coaching
There are a number of pros and cons for the use of AI in Coaching. As we describe on the webinar. Pros include accessibility, affordability and using AI to advance our coaching. Remember however, that AI will never replace the human connection. Furthermore, the ability to adapt and respond to the client in front of us. In addition, there are several of the ICF Core Competencies that AI cannot perform that are a part of our coaching programs.
How can AI make our coaching better?
That’s a good question! One of the ways we demonstrate the use of AI in coaching is by taking an actual transcript of a coaching recording. And then asking an AI bot ‘what better questions could the coach ask?’. The results are surprising. You can also put your questions into an AI bot and ask ‘how could I make this question more specific?’ Alternatively swap the work ‘specific’ for ‘curious’ or other words and see what happens. It’s all about experimenting and seeing what happens.
Explorers, not experts
There is no doubt that AI will continue to develop. From essentially goal driven processes to more complex processing. Our role is to be explorers. And we look forward to joining you on the coaching journey.
