40 FREE Coaching Cafés with CCEU’s attached
Back in February we held our first Coaching Café for the year. We discussed 5 themes in coaching for 2022. Of course, we didn’t know what 2022 would bring after the two previous years. But we did know that return to the physical office. Furthermore, performance reviews and the ‘great resignation’ were on the cards. Add in devasting floods across many parts of the country. And we’ve had a lot to contend with this year.
Importantly, on the other side of the coin, we’ve had much to celebrate. At Open Door this includes the launch of What Makes a Great Coach?
In our final Coaching Café of the year, Natalie and Paula and the Alumni explore the highlights. Particularly looking at the top 5 themes of the Coaching Cafes for 2022. And importantly, take a moment to reflect on the year that was and how far we’ve come.

We deliver 40 Free Coaching Cafes with CCEU’s attached
Firstly, let’s take a look at the numbers. We are so proud to offer this year:
Theme 1: Increased professionalism driven by the ICF
Significantly, the International Coach Federation made the following announcement:
A new way of accrediting that accredits an entire organization rather than only a specific curriculum or program. Accrediting whole organizations is a leading global practice. This sends a strong message of credibility and congruence for your organization, and our profession, that enables all of us to live the gold standard for which we are all proud.
- We highlight that the ICF was driving significant new changes in credentialling.
- Significantly, Open Door achieves the new accreditation standards in August 2022.
- Ready for rollout of credentials in January 2023.
Theme 2: ‘Great resignation’ and ‘quiet quitting’
Statistics from Gallup.com show an increase in the percentage of people in the workplace who are actively disengaged. And a decrease in the number of people who are engaged.
Gallup’s findings are based on a random sample of 15,091 full- and part-time U.S. employees aged 18 and over, surveyed in June of 2022.

In response Open Door Coaching Cafes feature experts on engagements. Importantly people from our Alumni who this year published their books:
- Career engagement with Mel Leow’s new book Engage
- Career Agility with Veronica Millen. She talks about Career Agility being answer to the great resignation.
In addition, Coaching Upwards features in a Café.
Theme 3: Performance conversations
I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.
Albert Einstein.
This theme is around performance conversations. Particularly that the onset of the global pandemic made conversations more difficult. Our fear is around a bubbling to the surface of all the conversations that were delayed.
In response the Coaching Café features a range of topics. Including coaching targeted at performance reviews and annual performance plans. Furthermore, tricky conversations.
Theme 4: Mental Health Awareness
The prevalence of people living with a mental health condition continues to increase. And we acknowledge organisations who are doing significant work in this area. For example, the Black Dog Institute. This year we continue our support of people in the workplace with initiatives including:
- Mental Health Awareness Week
- Mental Health First Aid Training
- And our highest rated podcast How to have a mental health conversation.
Theme 5: Continuous professional development
What an absolute thrill to experience the launch of What Makes a Great Coach? We focus on each of the top 10 practices of the world’s best coaches. Furthermore, celebrate the achievement of Amazon #1 Best Seller.
We finish the year on a high. Whilst at the same time acknowledging that the natural disasters, increase in interest rates, increase in the cost of living and impact of the global pandemic are very real for many people.
With this in mind we express gratitude.
Gratitude for what we have.
For the privilege of working with so many amazing people and organisations.
And the ability to make a difference.
Now it’s time to refresh. Relax. And rejuvenate.
Then we will take a look at 2023. All the best for the Summer break.
